The Troublemakers' Guide to Refugees and Inequalities with Grade 5 and 6 Students | Refugiados e Desigualdades com alunos do 5º e 6º ano

Yesterday, Aprendizes - International Active Learning School hosted an insightful event in collaboration with the Lisbon Project titled The Troublemakers' Guide to Refugees and Inequalities. This initiative aimed to raise awareness among students about the challenges faced by refugees and the importance of addressing social inequalities.

Gabriela, a representative from the Lisbon Project, joined the event alongside Salman, a young refugee originally from Iraq. Salman shared his remarkable journey of fleeing Iraq and seeking refuge in Portugal. Upon arriving in Portugal, he connected with the Lisbon Project, where he learned the language and found support. Over time, Salman became a cherished member of the Lisbon Project’s volunteer team. The community recently celebrated his 21st birthday, marking the first time in his life that he had ever celebrated this special occasion.

The event was divided into two sessions. From 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., Grades 5 and 6 students participated in the presentation, where they had the unique opportunity to ask Gabriela and Salman questions about his experiences and the work of the Lisbon Project. 

Following this, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., parents and families joined the session, hosted by 2 of our students, creating a broader dialogue around the importance of reflecting on social issues such as inequality and the refugee experience.

 The event was a powerful reminder of the human stories behind global challenges, encouraging the school community to engage more deeply with issues of compassion, solidarity, and social justice.

 Learning about these important topics in school is essential to building empathy, fostering understanding, and encouraging future generations to contribute positively to a more just and inclusive society. Events like these help students gain a deeper perspective on global challenges and the human stories behind them, shaping them into more socially conscious individuals.

Ontem, a Aprendizes - International Active Learning School organizou um evento em colaboração com o Lisbon Project intitulado The Troublemakers' Guide to Refugees and Inequalities. Esta iniciativa teve como objetivo sensibilizar os alunos para os desafios enfrentados pelos refugiados e para a importância de combater as desigualdades sociais.

Gabriela, uma representante do Projeto Lisboa, participou no evento juntamente com Salman, um jovem refugiado originário do Iraque. Salman partilhou o seu notável percurso de fuga do Iraque e de procura de refúgio em Portugal. Ao chegar a Portugal, estabeleceu contacto com o Projeto Lisboa, onde aprendeu a língua e encontrou apoio. Com o tempo, Salman tornou-se um membro querido da equipa de voluntários do Projeto Lisboa. A comunidade celebrou recentemente o seu 21.º aniversário, marcando a primeira vez na sua vida que celebrou esta ocasião especial.

O evento foi dividido em duas sessões. Das 15:00 às 16:00, os alunos do 5º e 6º anos participaram na apresentação, onde tiveram a oportunidade única de colocar questões à Gabriela e ao Salman sobre as suas experiências e o trabalho do Projeto Lisboa.

De seguida, das 16:00 às 17:00, pais e famílias juntaram-se à sessão, dinamizada por dois dos nossos alunos, criando um diálogo mais alargado sobre a importância de refletir sobre questões sociais como a desigualdade e a experiência dos refugiados.

O evento foi um poderoso lembrete das histórias humanas por detrás dos desafios globais, encorajando a comunidade escolar a envolver-se mais profundamente em questões de compaixão, solidariedade e justiça social.

Aprender sobre estes temas importantes na escola é essencial para criar empatia, promover a compreensão e encorajar as gerações futuras a contribuírem positivamente para uma sociedade mais justa e inclusiva. Eventos como este ajudam os alunos a adquirir uma perspetiva mais profunda dos desafios globais e das histórias humanas que lhes estão subjacentes, transformando-os em indivíduos socialmente mais conscientes.
